healthy living

currently listening to "i'm good now" by bob schneider

today's healthy tip? always keep healthy snacks on hand.

if you had your cup of green tea (tip from last week) and your stomach is still growling, then be sure to have a few smart options handy.. its always easier said then done. and no, dont just try chewing a piece of gum to fend off hunger; just be prepared with healthy options and allow yourself to enjoy it.. you dont need to torture yourself just because you're hungry. sometimes, i pack up all of my snacks for the week in little ziplocs and leave them in my fridge so i dont go too off track. my favorite on-hand snacks include:

- whole wheat goldfish
- baby carrots (i dip mine in mustard!)
- celery and peanut butter
- raw natural almonds
- special k/ fiber one bars
- low sodium rice cakes
- dark chocolate
- 100 calorie pack popcorn
- raw sugar snap peas, bell peppers, and cherry tomatoes
- clementines
- sliced apples with brie
- baked kale chips

my snack choices really just depend on where i am.. i try to keep a few options at my desk (goldfish, popcorn, special k bars, rice cakes), some in my purse (carrots, almonds), and at home (raw fruits/veggies, baked kale chips, cheese). snacking is not bad for you; it just depends on how often you do it, portion intake (don't eat that entire bag of goldfish in one sitting), why you're doing it (bored, aimlessly eating in front of the tv, etc.) and what you're snacking with.. so opt for healthier options the next time you reach for that pint of ice cream or bag of cheetos :) happy snacking everyone!
